Eagle’s Nest Learning Center provides a stimulating and active learning environment for boys. It is an academic, mentoring and character development program serving boys in the first through fifth grades from neighborhoods of Boston. Eagle’s Nest plans to add more grade levels to the program to eventually provide support thorough high school. The early intervention, spiritual focus and male mentoring components are integral to the Eagle’s Nest program. They aim to:
  • Detect and strengthen academic areas which contribute to early reading and math success, thus preventing students from falling behind;
  • Prevent boys from disengaging from school and risking possible failure;
  • Produce confident learners determined to excel in school;
  • Strengthen moral and character development—creating a bright, hopeful, successful future for tomorrow’s men.
Math and Literacy

Eagle’s Nest Learning Center believes in creating competent and relevant mathematicians.  Using numbers to understand and change our world and community starts at Eagle's Nest.  Understanding number sense, computing accurately and learning the value of numbers in everyday life will be emphasized. We will help each boy reach a comfort level with using and understanding math at all levels.  There will be individual as well as small group math activities to fortify you child's math learning. At Eagle's Nest math will be fun, engaging, and challenging.

Reading is fundamental as well as imperative in life today. Our literacy component will compass reading, comprehension strategies, and engaging writing activities.  Children will read ‘boy friendly literature” with rich content and write using creative and in depth prompts.  Our reading program will be interdisciplinary.  Reading will be incorporated in all subject areas.  Our goal is to support, strengthen, and help your son excel to read, understand, and analyze.

Pre and Post Assessment

Eagle’s Nest staff will perform pre and post testing to obtain quantifiable results based on assessment and evaluations. Our focus is to understand each boy individually in order to assess each one’s academic weaknesses. We create an action plan for each and monitor their progress to ensure that they improve over time.

Mentoring

Mentoring at Eagle’s Nest occurs when an adult engages in building a healthy, trusting relationship with a boy in the program. Mentors provide support, guidance, friendship, role modeling, assistance, and an attentive ear.

Eagle’s Nest mentors are constituents of the program and volunteer weekly by participating in structured activities or in small groups sharing priceless years of experience, education, knowledge and counsel that will catapult the boys years ahead in learning how to live life skillfully.

Eagle’s Nest operates within a culture of mentoring for its boys – this includes the staff, volunteers and administrators setting the proper tone in and outside of the building, respecting every young boy as learners, role modeling and moving about as compassionate teachers seizing every opportunity to touch the life of a young boy leading by example.

Building Character

During the early impressionable years, we prepare boys to be good citizens by incorporating a biblical Christian perspective in character development, whereby integrity, honor, truth and faith become part of their being. These are not just simple character traits we teach but are the very essence of Eagle’s Nest’s culture. We believe that the combination of excellent instruction, character training and mentoring in a faith-filled environment lays a foundation for generational successes.

Why boys need to develop character:

To understand and respect authority
To make responsible decisions
To have respect for self & others
To have cooperative attitudes
To promote student achievement
To be good citizens
To have integrity, honor and truth
To properly handle conflict
